That change then created a mathematical challenge because I did not know what angle to use for the tree's ascent up the hill. Some mathematical knowledge and much trial and error allowed me to finish the project with great results. https://drjeanneestork-specialedu-dscedutech.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/my-snake-center.jpgMy Snake CenterPeople with the free version of Hopscotch can still make this game, but instead of importing an outside photo, they would use stock pictures included within Hopscotch. This snake is the reason why this activity and its related versions had to pass moderation before they went live on the Web. The Hopscotch team works hard to make sure that everything is child-proof, and subscriptions pay for that moderation.https://drjeanneestork-specialedu-dscedutech.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/tilt-commands.jpgTilt CommandsDuring my exploration of Hopscotch, I found these "Tilt" command blocks. Wouldn't it be fun if my snake could be controlled by tilting my phone? It was a fairly easy process to change the snake from being controlled with a finger to being controlled by tilting my phone. When the phone tilts right, the snake moves right. When the phone tilts left, the snake moves left. When I tilt the phone up (towards me), I had the snake moving up. No, change that, when the phone tilts up, the snake has to fall down as if with gravity. When the phone tilts down (away from me), the snake has to move toward the top of the screen, which is now lower than the bottom if the screen. After a little bit of practice, I reversed the Y axis blocks (up/down motion) and got the snake to move with gravity. I then found that most people naturally tilt the phone up, so what happens if a hazard is placed below the snake, right where an unsuspecting user is likely to send the snake? Game over. Try again. How do I know this? I was the first naive user. Once I determined that I had to begin by tilting the phone away from me slightly, I decided to leave the mischevious item where it was to make the game a little bit more difficult for future users.https://drjeanneestork-specialedu-dscedutech.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/part-of-code-for-concentric-circles.jpgPart of Code for Concentric CirclesHere is a small piece of the coding blocks needed to draw my nested ring-like geometric shapes. After the third ring is complete, the alien who did the drawing jumps to the center and turns to face the viewer. This short shapes picture took me several hours of trial and error before I got everything looking the way I wanted it. I was amazed at how much time it took me to make this, but I am pleased with the final project. I got the idea by looking at the picture that represented the first drawing project's tutorial. I thought I was done creating projects with Hopscotch for this assignment, but that shape kept haunting me. Since I was unable to duplicate the shape, I settled for having the alien jump inwards to draw more rings. At the end, the alien was in a strange location turned at an unusual angle, so another half hour was spent getting him to hop into the middle and straighten himself out. The Projects tab has video tutorials (but some referenced older Hopscotch versions and are no longer completely accurate). This view also shows users the projects they are currently working on in the Drafts section. The upper right picture is the video for "Draw with Code." The tutorial is about how to draw a simple small square using coding blocks, without any color changes, and the final project looks nothing like this picture. After working with Hopscotch for a month, and with my knowledge of basic geometry and angles, I still cannot recreate this shape. The black dot that starts the fireworks is no longer visible when the background is also the same shade of black. I got the idea after completing another project that used a shape as a background. The dot that I originally had inside the magenta "When =" was wrong even though the video showed a dot there.
